MFU annual convention set Oct. 24-25 in Great Falls
GREAT FALLS, MT (Oct. 6, 2008) n The Montana Farmers Union will hold its 93rd annual meeting and convention Oct. 24-25, at the Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Mont.
The theme “Building on our Tradition for the Future” provides a focus for the convention’s seminars and workshops.
Convention features include:
Gubernatorial Debate n 4 p.m. onn Friday, Oct. 24. Democrat Brian Schweitzer, Republican Roy Brown, and Libertarian Stan Jones will respond to questions concerning agriculture in Montana. Great Falls Tribune Managing Editor Gary Moseman will moderate.
National Farmers Union President Tom Buis will address the Farmers Union Insurance Agent luncheon on Friday.
Montana Department of Agriculture Director Ron deYong will headline the Presidents’ Banquet Saturday evening.
Other workshop opportunities will cover the topics of rail transportation, community food and agriculture, grain diseases and pests, and food to fuel markets for camelina. A discussion on how the Farm Bill is being implemented will be led by Brandon Willis, agricultural legislative assistant to Senator Max Baucus.
The Saturday education luncheon will highlight the family friendly nature of the organization, with youth accomplishments being celebrated and awards presented.
