Montana cherry growers receive Growth Through Agriculture grant

Flathead Cherry Growers, partnering with Montana State University Extension, Flathead County, have received a $9,900 grant from Montana’s Growth Through Agriculture program to help identify more marketable cherry varieties. The funds will help in performing cherry variety trials around Flathead Lake to identify cherries best adapted to Montana conditions. The lack of current cherry research in Montana prohibits many producers from obtaining the information they need to make an accurate replacement variety choice.

Montana snowpack remains very low for March 1, streamflow forecast

According to records released by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, March 1 mountain snowpack in Montana is well below average and below last year at this time. February mountain precipitation was well below average and marked the fourth month in a row with below to well below average mountain precipitation. February mountain precipitation west of the Divide was 37 percent of average and east of the Divide was 51 percent of average.

Montana Agri-Women is sponsoring "Agriculture and Appetizers." The evening will be a chance for women in agriculture to network, receive updates on state and national issues and make new friends. The event will take place Monday, March 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Jake's Restaurant, 2701 1st Ave. North, downtown Billings, Mont.

Water Commissioner training course scheduled in Helena, Mont.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) is hosting its annual Water Commissioner Training Course. It will be held at the Jorgenson’s Inn in Helena, Mont., 8 and 9.
